Adoption of electronic health records hot spot for behavioural/mental health software market

The key driver in the global BMHS market is rising adoption of Electronic Health Records (EHR) in management of data pertaining to patients suffering from mental illnesses. The EHR can be integrated with the practice management suite. Through increased implementation of EHR, there is an improved efficiency in delivery of medical services. Improved medication management and streamlined billing management provides security of data related to patients. Healthcare professionals are connected through secure connections and facilitate timely sharing of accurate information about patient. In hospitals, behavioural/metal health software is connected to EHR systems that can minimize the time from 7-10 minutes to less than 1 minute per patient. According to the Health Information Technology Institute (U.S), around 96% of all non-federal acute care hospitals were certified health IT in 2015 globally among which about 98% were large hospitals and 97% were medium hospitals. In 2015, 3 out of 4 (78%) hospitals had adopted a certified EHR and half of them (54%) adopted a 'Basic EHR'. Since 2008, globally, office-based physicians adopted EHRs by double and growth peaked to 87% from 42% while adoption of basic EHRs has reached more than triple from 17% to 54%. During 2014-2015, adoption of EHR grew by 5%, whereas adoption of certified EHRs grew by 5% and adoption of basic EHR grew by 7%. In Canada, significant growth in adoption of EHRs was observed. Moreover, as per National Centre for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), about 77% of family doctors were using EHR in 2015 globally. Also, as per NCBI, in 2016, New Zealand has accounted an EHR adoption rate of 97%. The country is projecting to have a single EHR system by 2018 that can easily be accessed from any place. Through the implementation of EHR, behavioural healthcare organizations can gain various benefits such as accurate tracking of patients’ diagnostic process, timely sharing of patient data, etc. For instance, EHRs can efficiently support patient-related information capture. Thus, growing adoption of EHR is anticipated to drive the market.
